Caution!! Walmart Soy Sauce no longer gluten free!!

I was picking up some more soy sauce at Walmart today and noticed the label has changed. I turned it around and checked the ingredients and it states WHEAT as a main ingredient.

This was in my local Decatur Walmart - I just checked online while looking for an image and it appears they still have it at some of their stores so stock up!! if you find it. BUT check the label first.

I am so disappointed! This is the soy sauce we always get. We have been getting this even before Gracie needed to be gluten free and now we need to find an alternative. What a bummer.

So... This is just another reminder to ALWAYS check your labels when purchasing something - the ingredients may have changed.

Put a cherry on top!

Gracie LOVES Maraschino Cherries - simply loves them and always has.

She has been asking me to get some for her for a while but honestly I have forgotten to pick some up while at the store. I got some today at WalMart (Great Value brand) and it stated on the jar "Naturally a gluten free food." I really like that. We all know cherries are a naturally gluten free food but with the artificial color and extra flavoring etc. you never know what will be in it. It is nice that it is so clearly stated.

Not only does she love how they taste she just loves the "fancy" that it brings to any food. Add it to lemon lime soda, ice cream, put it on a dish of pudding or on top of the whipped cream on your hot chocolate. Fancy, fancy, fancy.

I think the thing it brings - especially to a child with Celiac - is there is SO much she can't have that is fancy. Stick a bright red cherry on top and something very simple seems kicked up a notch.

They keep forever in the fridge. Keep it on hand to put a cherry on top!

Gluten Corn Chex are here!

Gluten Free Corn Chex have hit our local Walmart!  I just found them at the store today.  We currently have Rice Chex and Corn Chex that are gluten free.  I am still waiting on the other flavors to come in.

I have said it before but will say it again - I LOVE that General Mills has taken Celiac Disease and other gluten issues seriously and has provided us with a mainstream cereal that is also certified gluten free.

Yea!

A nod to the Evil Empire

We live in a small community of around 5000 that is 40 miles from the closest Tom Thumb or Central Market - even further for a Whole Foods. How would we survive Celiac w/only a Walmart???

When we received the diagnosis for Grace I called a dear friend whose daughter also had Celiac. She said we all would survive. She gave GREAT tips and suggestions - the best being look at the ingredient list for Walmart brand foods - Great Value. Turns out that Walmart specifically states "Gluten Free" on their nutrition labels when the product is in fact gluten free!!! Hurray! I can't tell you how easy it has been to just turn the product over, look on the back and see that gluten free label. That said - many of the items are traditionally gluten free (like cheese) - however since we all have been surprised by hidden gluten it is so lovely for it to be stated so plain.

Even though I have issues with Walmart - I appreciate the courtesy to those who are gluten free.
